Yes, You Will Vote!

It has never been easier to vote than it is today in America. We are blessed to have early voting, one stop registration/voting, Election Day voter transportation, all sorts of ways to make voting more convenient for citizens of this great nation. And it’s free! In my short lifetime, I can remember when, at least in Oklahoma, you had to pay the poll tax in order to vote.
And yet I heard someone say he wasn’t going to vote. That’s right! I couldn’t believe it either. He said he was fed up with all the negative politics and his candidate didn’t win the nomination anyway so he just wasn’t going to vote. Well that man IS going to vote. By not casting a ballot he is voting FOR apathy and AGAINST democracy. Not only that, but obviously there is more than one position up for grabs on the ballot. His non-vote is a tacit approval of every winning candidate.
I’m told that in the mid-term election of 1986, Ronald Reagan’s second term, there were five senate candidates who stood for Christian values who lost by a total of about 57,000 votes. That’s less than 12,000 votes per state in the five states they would have represented in the U.S. Senate. In those five states there were over 5,000,000 Christian voters who just didn’t vote. If only 1%, one out of every 100 of those good Christian folks had voted their values in those elections, conceivably those five senators would have been elected, and there have been a ten vote swing in the United States Senate on numerous critical issues.
Your vote is extremely important in this year’s election. Brave men and women have shed their blood for this privilege. Let’s be wise stewards of this sacred and joyful responsibility.
